For Fall Winter 2020, Salonen pursues his exploration of workwear and subcultures looking back at 80’s hardcore and punk bands (soundtrack of his life) and the graphics that adorned the violently moving bodies of many mosh pits since then. The hardcore punk scene’s iconography is transposed into the world of Vyner Articles and passed through Salonen’s all time passion for murder mysteries paperbacks artworks and horror pulp comics resulting in a fantasist Tales From the Crypts to the sound of Crass, the Misfits or The Damned in an Agatha Christie-esque universe.
A series of digital and photographic prints on t-shirts, sweats and shirts hint at a clever mix of The Crass’s infamous logo mixed with the circle-A anarchist symbol, a teenage rebels favourite reemerging via the climate movement. An infinity sign made of fishbones featuring the playful words “Cod is infinite” or “Cods and Coddesses” recalls the Punk’s Not Dead skull head of The Exploited and reminds us that No Future, punk motto above all, is more real than ever. The Damned Vyner t-shirts and sweats continue the wittiness of Salonen’s references, here combining the eponymous UK punk band with an open commentary on today’s world, where Gods become Cods and nature is certainly doomed but, in a very Finnish fashion, all this with a certain lightness and positivity.
